About the research group

The Psychoneurobiology of Eating and Addictive Behaviors Group is led by senior investigators Dr. Fernando Fernández-Aranda and Dr. Susana Jiménez-Murcia. This group encompasses both Eating Disorders and Behavioral Addictions units, which are integral parts of the Department of Psychiatry at the University Hospital of Bellvitge, Barcelona.

This team has been active for over 20 years and has been recognized as one of the groups of excellence in the Centre for Biomedical Research in Network-Pathophysiology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN) of the Carlos III Institute of Health (ISCIII) since 2007. Over this period, they have achieved a high level of clinical and research activity.

From a comprehensive standpoint, the Eating Disorders Unit provides specialized healthcare for anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder, offering outpatient clinic, day hospital, and inpatient services. Similarly, the Behavioral Addictions Unit is Spain's largest public healthcare resource for these disorders and has extensive experience in diagnosing and treating behavioral addictions. Due to their high clinical activity, these units have been officially recognized as national referral centers for complex cases.

Moreover, the group conducts cutting-edge research into the etiology and treatment of these disorders, as well as new research lines focused on neuroscience, contributing significantly to scientific production and maintaining an international presence.
